Downton Abbey needs a blog!

Greetings and welcome to my blog. I have never tried to do this before so wish me luck.
This wonderful show seems to have a lot of fans but no place to get together and share.
I look forward to hearing your thoughts of past episodes as well as theories on plot lines
for the future.

  1. Hi Two Ponies...I am certain that the world will soon be beating a path to your door...

If you're on FB, there is a way to link blogs to your account - I've done it, but don't ask me how.

Now on to our beloved topic.
Was surprised by the last episode...lots of misfortune, lots of absurdity. Funny - I find myself, when discussing it with friends, using the names of the old Upstairs Downstairs folks... Mr. Bellamy, Hudson... anyone else have this retro-affliction?

Now for all you sports fans, enjoy:
    Super-proper Bowl

    Thanks TP for this!

  2. Ha! Great idea, Two Ponies :) (I noticed at least a few people wanting to discuss it on RP and then getting soundly SMACK!ed by others who were wary of spoilers.)

I'm going to be following your blog but probably will be more of an info mooch than a witty contributor to the conversation. I was only able to get caught up on the series myself last night as my DVR froze 20 minutes into recording the first episode of the new season. I've since found it online, but I depend on closed captioning to "hear" and, natch, PBS's captions are occasionally very wonky, so I still missed a lot of went on in (I think) episode three. And then my TV captions decided to crap out on me in a couple of episodes as well, so I've missed a lot. For instance, I wasn't able to catch a word of what O'Brien and Barrow's tete-a-tete in (I think) Episode 3 was about (I assume they were conspiring something evil though).

The biggest "Oh, crap" moment in last night's episode for me was when Carlisle tells Mary he's glad they're on more even footing. I expected him to turn into an ass with that knowledge, but sure didn't expect it to happen so fast. Something tells me she'll manage to hold her own with him though.

Thanks for the forum, Toop! (That would be short for Two Ponies, of course. It's either that or TP. ;)

  3. er, not "last night's" episode; rather the most recent episode (which I watched last night!)

  4. So was last night the final episode?? The one taking place over Christmas? So sad!
Even my husband cannot miss an episode. Very out of character for him, especially considering this is not easily distinguishable from an "ordinary" soap opera.

Clearly there is lots left for season 3 - do we have to wait for next January? Or will it be out in September? (Season 2 was supposed to be out for September 2011.) The producers must have all doubts erased as to whether or not it's a hit!

  5. Will the maid who got knocked up by the officer be invited back to Downton? Will Mary take her to her and Matthew's new house?

Seems that the overly-amorous single mother maid (sorry - I don't remember all the names) at least paved the way for their acceptance of a maid with a baby in tow.

Anyhow, I loved Season 2, with the emotional roller coaster well-designed to tug at our heartstrings.

    Anyone else?
(Toop - I wish you ahd started this for episode 1!)

  6. Hi Everyone, I do wish I had started this with Season 1. For anyone who wanted to replay old episodes or review before the new season you can watch them at PBS.
I just can't say enough about the quality of acting. So much can be said with a glance or a raised eyebrow. The costumes are great as well.
@ Tita, Good point about the single mother paving the way. Her name was Jane and I don't believe her story about being a widow. Remember her surprised almost shocked look when asked about her husband? I do think we will see more of Ethel. The officer's mother wants that baby so badly.
When Matthew's fiance died I was so struck by the photography from above as she laid motionless on the bed. But she had to be written out, just glad they did it so well.
Another side story I enjoyed was Daisy's new friendship with William's dad. I loved it when she said that no one had ever thought of her as special. Just lovely.
Will Edith get back together with her old beau? I hope so. Se seems rather determined and he's so nice.
Did you all get goosebumps when Matthew proposed to Mary? I did.
@ Deb, Toop gave me a laugh, thanks!
